Sitting atop a slight hill with steps down to a small private beach, this really wonderful Oliver Messel designed house faces west affording glorious sea views and sunsets. Built of stone on two levels, the house was cleverly designed with two bedrooms on the main floor and two more on the lower level. As with all Messel houses, one is charmed by the property even before stepping inside.
Three sets of double doors open into the beautifully done living room and from the entrance one can see straight through the house past the loggia and across the pool to the ocean. The whole visual is serene and very pretty. From the loggia a few steps lead down to the expansive pool terrace with comfortable sitting areas as well as a separate covered dining area. The large pool has a waterfall that cascades from its infinity edge into a basin on the lower level which is accessed via a pair of graceful staircases on either side of the waterfall. From here a path winds down to the beach with good snorkeling just offshore. The lushly landscaped garden also has a shady sitting area with circular teak bench and chairs around a teak table. Rocina is within easy walking distance of the Cotton House, the island’s only hotel, as well as its spa, beach and beach bar which can also be reached by walking along the shore.
